A few kilometres north of Foix in the Ariege department, you can take a subterranean boat ride on the river Labouiche. Discovered in 1908, the underground river runs for more than 10 kilometres, on several levels and with many waterfalls; fortunately tourists aren’t expected to shoot the rapids, as the boat ride only extends for 1.5 kilometres!
There are also exhibitions of archaeological finds discovered in the cave system.
